SABnzbd is written in Python, so you can run it on any operating system that supports Python. You can find separate installation files for Windows, Mac and Linux, which can be downloaded in a few seconds. Installing the software is not difficult and you can decide to associate it with NZB files during the setup procedure. When you launch SABnzbd for the first time, you will have to follow a wizard's instructions and associate the software with your Usenet account.

The program provides a web interface, which is loaded on your default web browser. You can bring up the interface at any time, by running SABnzbd's executable or by double clicking its system tray icon. On the surface, the software looks very simple. It displays your queued and finished downloads on the same page, along with a few options, which you can use to filter your downloads or to set up a maximum speed.

Additional options are made available when you start downloading. You can prioritize and categorize your downloads, decide how to process the data and more. Other options can be revealed manually and they can be used to filter the downloads by their assigned priorities, categories and so on.

Besides SABnzbd's downloads page, you can access a rich settings menu, which is divided into multiple sections. You can make numerous configurations, from selecting folders on your hard drive or specifying URLs to setting up schedules or email notifications. Additionally, the software allows you to add more Usenet accounts and RSS feeds.
